“There are more ways to the wood than one.”
Lettering, in a variety of styles, has long been a staple of the art of wood carving. Lettering is used for information boards, signposts, house numbers or family door signs, and many other occasions - the birth of a child or grandchild, for instance, is a wonderful occasion to have a name sign carved.
Calligraphy is the first step in the process of creating carved lettering, but it is also an art form in its own right, suited to many different occasions. Home decoration, baptismal mottos and unique handwritten invitation cards are only a few of many possible applications for this art form.
